WBMSC Sub-Assistant Engineer Recruitment 2025 : The West Bengal Municipal Service Commission (WBMSC) has officially released a major recruitment notification for the year 2025, inviting online applications for 125 Sub-Assistant Engineer posts in Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). This drive covers three engineering disciplines – Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical, providing a valuable opportunity for diploma-qualified engineers seeking stable government jobs in West Bengal.

According to the notification, the recruitment has been sanctioned by the Government of West Bengal through the Department of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs. The application process is completely online and candidates must apply through the official WBMSC website, www.mscwb.org, on or before September 22, 2025.

The vacancy distribution includes 78 posts in Civil Engineering, 19 posts in Electrical Engineering, and 28 posts in Mechanical Engineering. Category-wise reservations have also been specified for UR, EWS, SC, ST, OBC(A), OBC(B), and PwD candidates, ensuring opportunities for diverse groups. Selected candidates will be appointed at Pay Level – 12 under ROPA-2019, making this a lucrative career option for engineering aspirants.

To be eligible, applicants must hold a diploma in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from the State Council for Engineering & Technical Education or an equivalent recognized institution. The maximum age limit is 37 years as of January 1, 2025, with relaxations for reserved categories – SC/ST (5 years), OBC (3 years), PWD (up to 45 years), and Ex-Servicemen as per rules. Candidates from outside West Bengal applying under SC, ST, or OBC categories will be treated as General.

The application fee has been set at ₹200 for UR, EWS, and OBC candidates (₹150 Application Fee + ₹50 Processing Fee), while SC, ST, and PwD candidates need to pay only the ₹50 processing fee. Fees can be paid online through the BillDesk payment gateway. Candidates will also be required to furnish a bond of ₹50 on non-judicial stamp paper if they opt for temporary lodging/shelter within the KMC area for emergency duties.

The selection process consists of a Written Examination and a Personality Test. The written exam will carry 200 marks with 100 multiple-choice questions, based on the AICTE-approved diploma syllabus, and will have a duration of 1.5 hours. Negative marking of 1 mark for every wrong answer will apply. Candidates who qualify will be called for a Personality Test carrying 40 marks, where they must secure the minimum qualifying percentage – 45% for UR, 40% for OBC & EWS, and 35% for SC/ST/PwD. The final merit list will be prepared based on combined performance in both stages.

WBMSC has also issued important guidelines for applicants. Only one application per post is allowed, and candidates must carefully review instructions before submission to avoid rejection. Those already employed must provide a No-Objection Certificate (NOC). PwD candidates requiring scribes can apply online for the facility between September 23 and September 25, 2025.

The Commission has emphasized that any false information or incorrect category claim will result in cancellation of candidature. Applicants are therefore advised to regularly check the official website, www.mscwb.org, for updates, exam dates, and admit card notifications.
